The Calgary Police Service Headquarters Building is located at 133 - 6th Avenue S.E. (corner 6 Ave and 1st St). Constructed as a highrise residential property in the late seventies it was converted to office space. When fiscal pressure from the end of the "boom" put the building on the market, the Police Service purchased the "Andrew Davidson" building to be developed into the new headquarters.
Using "state-of-the-art" upgrades, Building Management has been able to provide the tennants with a comfortable and efficient environment to meet the high expectations of the tennants.
It is interesting to note that most of the offices (north and south sides) have balconies.
The building is 15 stories high with 5 levels of below ground parking.
Access is via four Dover elevators (19 Passengers, 1.5 ton) programmed for variable demand.
Heating is provided by two model 4000 Teledyne Laars watertube boilers (4,000,000 Btu/hr with a Trane Model 21 Climate Changer. Air Handling Units are on each floor. A 780,000 Btu/hr Weil McLean steam boiler provides humidification.
A Trane Centrifugal Chiller (344 ton) located on the top floor is the main cooling unit. The system uses a Baltimore Aircoil Cooling Tower with variable drive and "free cooling" by a High - K shell and tube heat exchanger. Special cooling for the computer rooms is provided by Hiross Ecos III glycol cooled A/C units with rooftop fluid coolers.
Monitoring and controls in this building plus eight other buildings is preformed by Graphic Interface Terminal supplied by Landis & Gyr. This provides a high level of service for all of the office space with immerdiate response to change conditions.
